What Is Domain Rating (DR)?
Domain Rating is a metric developed by Ahrefs that scores the overall strength of a website's backlink profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100. It considers the number of unique referring domains linking to a site, the DR of those linking domains, and how many other sites each of them links to.
Because the scale is logarithmic, moving from DR 20 to DR 30 requires significantly less effort than moving from DR 70 to DR 80. This makes DR a useful relative benchmark for comparing websites within a competitive landscape, but not a linear measurement of link equity.
Domain Rating is not a Google ranking factor. Google does not use DR (or any third-party metric) in its algorithm. However, DR correlates with ranking performance because websites with strong backlink profiles tend to rank better. SEO professionals use DR as a proxy to evaluate link-building progress, vet potential backlink sources, and benchmark against competitors.
How to Use This Bulk DR Checker
Step 1
Paste Your Domains
Enter up to 50 domains in the text area, one per line. You can paste full URLs (like https://www.example.com/page) — the tool extracts the hostname automatically and strips the www. prefix.
Step 2
Click Check Domain Ratings
The tool sends each domain to the Ahrefs API and streams results back in real time. You'll see each domain's DR appear in the table as soon as it's ready — no waiting for the entire batch to finish.
Step 3
Sort and Analyze
Use the sort button to rank domains by DR score (highest first) or keep the original order. This is useful for quickly identifying the strongest and weakest domains in your list.
Step 4
Export to CSV
Once all results are in, download them as a CSV file. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet tool for further analysis, filtering, or sharing with your team.
Domain Rating Score Ranges
Understanding what different DR scores mean helps you set realistic goals and evaluate backlink opportunities. Here's a general breakdown of what to expect at each level.
Domain Rating vs Domain Authority
Domain Rating (DR) by Ahrefs and Domain Authority (DA) by Moz are both third-party metrics that estimate the strength of a website's backlink profile. They serve a similar purpose but differ in methodology.
| Domain Rating (DR) | Domain Authority (DA) | |
|---|---|---|
| Provider | Ahrefs | Moz |
| Scale | 0 – 100 (logarithmic) | 0 – 100 (logarithmic) |
| Based on | Backlink profile strength (referring domains, their DR, outgoing links) | Link profile, MozRank, MozTrust, and other factors |
| Google factor? | No | No |
| Best for | Evaluating backlink sources, competitor benchmarking | Quick authority estimate, outreach vetting |
In practice, many SEO professionals use both metrics. If you're comparing backlink opportunities or evaluating where to build dofollow backlinks, checking DR gives you a reliable indicator of a site's link equity strength.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ahrefs Domain Rating?
Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR) is a metric that measures the strength of a website's backlink profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100. It is calculated based on the quantity and quality of external backlinks pointing to a domain. A higher DR indicates a stronger backlink profile.
Is this Domain Rating checker free?
Yes. This tool uses the Ahrefs public API to look up Domain Rating for free. You can check up to 50 domains at once without creating an account or paying anything.
How accurate are the Domain Rating results?
The results come directly from the Ahrefs public API, so they reflect the same DR values you would see on the Ahrefs website. Ahrefs updates their index regularly, so the scores represent the most recent data available.
What is the difference between Domain Rating and Domain Authority?
Domain Rating (DR) is a metric by Ahrefs that measures backlink profile strength. Domain Authority (DA) is a similar metric by Moz. Both use a 0–100 scale, but they use different algorithms and data sources, so the scores for the same domain will differ. Neither is an official Google ranking factor — they are third-party estimates of a site's link equity.
How many domains can I check at once?
You can check up to 50 domains in a single batch. The tool automatically removes duplicates, strips www prefixes, and extracts hostnames from full URLs. Results stream in one by one, so you see each domain's DR as soon as it's ready.
Can I export the results?
Yes. After all domains have been checked, an Export CSV button appears. It downloads a CSV file with two columns — domain and rating — that you can open in Excel, Google Sheets, or any spreadsheet application.
What does a good Domain Rating look like?
DR 0–20 is typical for new or small websites. DR 20–40 indicates a growing backlink profile. DR 40–60 is strong and common among established businesses. DR 60–80 represents very authoritative domains. DR 80–100 is reserved for the most linked-to websites on the internet, such as Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia.
How can I improve my Domain Rating?
The most effective way to increase DR is to earn backlinks from other websites with strong backlink profiles. You can do this through guest posting, creating linkable content, getting listed in quality directories, and building genuine relationships with other site owners. Submitting your website to Web Review gives you a free dofollow backlink that contributes to your DR growth.
